Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. I decided to cook a special dinner for the family. I recently bought a Tfal OptiGrill. I bought it instead of a George Foreman Grill since it is suppose to let you know when your meat is cooked to rare, medium, or well. So I decided to buy it. I’ve had it a little over a week and used it about 3 times. I decided to use it to make most of the valentine’s dinner. The theme I landed on was Surf & Turf. So I bought some New York Strip Steaks, Lobster Tails, and Shrimp.
For the New York Strip Steaks I marinated them the night before in my favorite marinade, Zia’s Fat Free Sweet Italian dressing. That is all it takes. You can top it with a good steak butter or what I used, just some A1 sauce.
While the steak was cooking I started cooking the side dish. I cooked some minute brown rice.
Since I was grilling the Lobster tail in an indoor grill, I pulled the tail completely out of the shell and put it on a wood skewer. I made a lemon butter sauce (3 tbps of butter melted, half a lemon squeezed, and one mined garlic glove). I brushed it with butter before I put it on the grill. Then brushed it with more butter when I pulled it off.
I marinaded the shrimp in a honey soy sauce (1/2 cup of honey, 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 2 minced garlic gloves, and 1/2 tsp salt). I used half of the sauce to marinate the shrimp. I placed it in a plastic ziploc bag and marinated for about 15 mintues before I put it on the grill. The other half, I poured into a pot and simmered till it thickened. I put the shrimp on a skewer before putting them on the grill. After I pulled them off, I placed them on top of the brown rice and then brushed the remaining honey soy sauce on top.
The plate, to me, looked like something you would get from a steak house. It turned out great. It ended up being a lot of food, but I enjoyed every bite. For my daughter I put only the rice and shrimp on her plate. She likes shrimp but wasn’t digging the lobster. She tasted the steak and gave it a thumps up. I would definitely make this again!
